Opulent Apartmant in Brussels

The pictures below are trying to capture the design of an apartment in Brussels. The project belongs to Agence Andrée Putman and gives a new and modern meaning to contemporary living. There have been many opinions expressed regarding this interior design and this is one of them : “When Agence Andrée Putman designs a duplex for a Brussels heiress, it’s clear that women rule” (Judy Fayard). Everything in this apartment spelsl “opulence”. We will only give a few examples of elements that stand out: a 1966 chair by Eero Aarnio, a giant Murano glass necklace by Jean-Michel Othonie, a love seat by Satyendra Pakhalé and a lamp by Alessandro Mendini. The spiral stair case in the middle is the focal point of the apartment and leads up to the terrace pool. Photos were made by Eric Laignel.

When it comes to planning and decorating bedrooms or play areas for children -- whatever their age -- take inspiration from the memories of your own youth. Revisit your childhood to try to recapture something of the fun and exuberance of your earliest years. Can you remember when there seemed to be no rules no preconceptions about anything, least of all interior design? Small children are naturally attracted to bright colors, strong patterns and familiar images, whatever form they take, so try to incorporate all these elements into their surroundings to give them a lively and spontaneous flavor. Bear in mind that a room scheme should develop with the child and accommodate his or hers changing tastes and needs -- the bedroom of a boisterous toddler serves a very different purpose to a teenager's private and fiercely-guarded hideaway. With a little forethought, however, you can plan a space that is both stylish and adaptable and one that your children can grow up with happily. If you are starting a room from scratch and furnishing a nursery for a new baby, it may be tempting to go for the full-on coordinated look available from high-end stores. Changing tables, cribs and and dressers, complete with matching rugs, curtains and wallpaper may be the ideal solution for the first few years, but they are expensive, soon outgrown and, when the design choices have already been made for you, they provide little scope for individuality. It is far better (and more economical in the long run) to start off with a few good pieces of basic furniture, plain walls and ceiling, and a simple floor covering. You can then introduce blocks of color and pattern by means of the soft furnishings, bedding and accessories. These can easily be changed and updated, the furniture can be repainted when a new look is demanded. Young children's rooms are not really the place for subtle colors. You only have to look at their boxed games, dolls, fluffy stuffed toys and picture books to be confronted with an onslaught of bright primary colors. So look to crisp greens, vivid reds, and clear blues as a starting point for the soft furnishings. A jumbled mix of stripes, checks and cheerful gingham always work well together and would look good in either boy's or girl's room. If you prefer to incorporate some pattern, there are some great retro-style prints about, featuring cowboy or seaside themes. However, special children's fabrics depicting beloved cartoon characters, super heroes or pop idols, are bound to be their favorite. If you start with out with a simple, classic theme of which your child approves -- nautical, sports, zoo animals, colorful fruit and flowers, little princess or Shaker inspired folk art -- you can share your enthusiasm and build on it together by adding curtains, cushions, throws and new bed linens. The fabric should be hard wearing and easy to care for, as they are bound to get well used, covered in sticky fingerprints. Children spend a lot of time playing sitting and rolling on the floor, so a few large cushions or beanbags will make life a bit more comfortable.

You may also find it useful to have large quilts in the playroom or bedroom. They will provide extra bedding, but will also double up as soft play mats, cover an armchair or sofa to protect the upholstery or stand in as a magic flying carpet when necessary.

Spiritual Mode is a Japanese company which deals with creating furniture items for day to day life. We were particularly drawn by the bathroom sector and the company’s ability to imprint originality and style to every bathroom design that is present in their portfolio. With a unique bathtub shape and a classic rain shower, the ice was broken and the rest of the items just come to complete the overall pleasant image of this interior. Candles are placed on a structure next to the window in order to create that fantastic atmosphere a relaxing bath involves.

Netherlands Wood Home Design

House Bierings is a wood home design of a most unique shape. This interesting home in Utrecht, Netherlands stands out in its rural setting. The countryside wood home by Netherlands Architects Rocha Tombal features protruding windows of varying shapes and sizes, also clad in wood, dotting the unconventional home’s exterior. The sleek roof is clad in wood as well, with roof edges being flash with the walls. “From a basic form, defined by the municipal urban plan, sculptural ‘eyes’ emerge with direct views to the varied countryside landscape,” explains the architect. This odd design translates into quite unusual interiors. A sloping ceiling at ground level features skylights that flood the living areas and kitchen with natural illumination, which the architect describes as “fingers of light.” An expansive glass wall in the kitchen overlooks a garden, adding yet another element of nature into this contemporary style house. Minimalist interiors do a marvelous job of highlighting the home’s tall ceilings and fascinating architectural features. Rocha Tombal

Arsitektur Kontemporer Rumah Minimalis

This Mexican contemporary architecture designed by Agraz Architects is a design with lots of layers to it, and enveloped in a Zen aura for minimalist living at its best. The modern house finds a good balance between indoor and outdoor living rooms, public and private spaces. A simple geometric exterior makes way for minimalist interiors with large rooms adorned in little more than a few items of contemporary furniture to enhance their size. Floor-to-ceiling windows create sun-soaked interiors with a view of the rolling meadow outside. The main floor of this contemporary style home is focused on public life, with living and lounging rooms and functional spaces. Below it, a lower level houses private spaces like the bedrooms and baths. The outdoors offers yet another layer of living space, with open-air terraces and a garden. Agraz Architects

Muelle House is an all wood home made entirely of timber and is one of the last of its kind among Chile architecture in its home town of Chiloe. This unusual house plan designed by Jonas Retamal sits on a 28-degree slope, and is made to weather the region’s unstable climate. Come rain, come wind, come fire, this awesome wood clad house can stand up to anything. Stilts bring it up off its hillside, and the house extends onto a cantilevered deck, which overlooks Castro’s fjord. The all-wood design is made of peanut, tepa and ulmo wood, which gives it a lot of variety in color and texture. Inside, three volumes cover off the home’s three functions – service areas, sleeping quarters and a living and lounging area which combines a kitchen, living and dining room opening onto the deck.

Brazilian architect Marcio Kogan designed this amazing beach house with all the fixings. This house boasts fabulous outdoor entertaining areas and equally spectacular interiors to match, wrapped in a contemporary style home of concrete, wood and glass. Located on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro, this simple yet stylish concrete and glass design makes a strong horizontal presence with panoramic views of beach and surf. Built into a majestic tree-covered slope, this beach-front house overlooks a wide wooden deck and pool, an ideal spot for soaking up the hot South American sun. The house itself is simple, taking shape as two stacked cubes open to the outdoors. Minimalist interiors make the primary focus the view – breathtaking from every angle, inside and out. Marcio Kogan

This interior comes form Olle Rex, a company of “young and enthusiastic architects” from Sweden. The place is called “The Karlavagen 59″ and it is basically a king-size apartment which includes a huge balcony, no less than four bedrooms and a large living-room with modern furniture and a fireplace. The kitchen is classic with a table for eight in the middle and elegant white cupboards. Some colors are randomply spread through the apartment (in the form of pillows, wacky paintings and objects) for additional charm and a more joyful atmosphere. There were no compromises made in designing the bathroom either. Take a look! Via decoist

Creative director of The Apartment Creative Agency,Stefan Boublil has recently completed the interior design for an apartment in Manhattan, New York. He combined 3 smaller apartments into one at one of new york city’s most coveted uptown addresses, with each single room constructed with a magnificent view of central park. Suited for a family of 4 with 2 children, the communal living spaces stands in between the master suite and the kids’ rooms, hidden behind the aforementioned trap door in the library, thereby providing a buffer of sight and sound. The kitchen and dining area is the only ones wrapped in waxed concrete thereby giving it a theatrical feel, especially when see from the rest of the apartment which is clad in bleached pine and subdued colors.

Designing a small home with vertical composition might be one of many projects worked by Chaewon Kim and Beat Schenk of design/build company UNI. Composed of three 16-by-22 feet boxes, the XS House in Cambridge, MA is stacked and rotated for a most uncanny profile. The small house is finished in marine plywood. Each level of this small house design has its own distinct look and feel, with marble being the materials of choice on the main level, and oak plywood upstairs. Every “box” boasts its own skylight, flooding interiors with natural light while maintaining a sense of privacy in this small urban house. Via

Morato Arquitetura have designed a house in Nova Lima, a city in the Minas Gerais state of Brazil. The house was projected for a young executive with a bold entrepreneur profile. The house was built in a land with three distinct levels which lead to a better use of declivity. Another advantage of this arrangement is providing great plasticity to architectonic elements. Pure volumes receive interference from inclined columns, from discontinuous covering planes and from the red wall that crosses the house. The reference to the Brazilian modernist architecture is maintained and nevertheless unconstructed and reorganized.
